Colloidal Nanocrystals as Electrocatalysts with Tunable Activity and Selectivity

Correlating the catalyst activity, selectivity, and stability with its structure composition is of utmost importance in advancing knowledge heterogeneous electrocatalytic processes for chemical energy conversion. Well-defined colloidal nanocrystals tunable monodisperse size uniform shapes are ideal platforms to investigate effect these parameters on catalytic performance. In addition translating from single-crystal studies more realistic conditions, morphological compositional complexity attainable by chemistry can provide access active catalysts which cannot be produced other synthetic approaches. The sample uniformity also beneficial reconstruction via both ex situ operando techniques. Finally, obtained as inks, a feature facilitates their integration different substrates cell configurations study impact interactions at mesoscale device-dependent reaction microenvironment outcome. this Review, we discuss recent selected electrochemical reactions our outlook future developments use well-defined an emerging class electrocatalysts.
